Need a bathroom? Porta potties or toilets are near most trailheads. After that, search for privacy foliage.
Should we use our own backpacks? We prefer you use ours, then you don't accidentally walk off with our gear, and you don't get your pack dirty.
What are these ninja water shoes? Japanese tabis (fishermen shoes). The felt sole clings to wet, mossy rocks better than any other shoe. They can be slippery in mud, however. Best to wear them in the water, not on the hike.
Bugs love you? Got a bite? Ask your guide for AfterBite -- pharmaceutical ammonia that neutralizes the toxin. Takes away the itch. Also very good for bee, spider, scorpion, centipede and hornet stings.
What are flash floods? Sudden, very rapid flooding in streams, due to heavy rainfall. Rare, but get out of the water if your guide blows a whistle. You need to react very quickly and head for high ground. Listen to your guide.
Do you have medical issues? (back, knees, heart, diabetes, pregnancy) Write these down below or tell your guide.
Is tipping the guide common? Yes, this is a service industry. If you're happy with your guide, a 10-15% tip is the best way to show appreciation.
This was a great hike in East Maui which was in the rain forest (it rained), sampled multiple fruits, pineapples, papaya, passion fruit, avacados, beautiful plants and flowers. Hike was approximately 4 miles and included multiple waterfalls, areas safe to jump into the water, swim and just soak in the beauty. Our tour guide was awesome and small group of 10 which made it even better. I would highly recommend East Maui Waterfalls!!!
My husband and I and our daughter and boyfriend did the East Maui Waterfalls east waterfalls. We opted to get the hotel pick up which was late due to another family not being ready but our guide handled everything superbly. We drove a bit on the Hana highway and then were driven to private property to hike from. The hike was easy for us but be prepared for lots of roots, mud, and streams. The waterfalls were beautiful and did swim in them and jump off! We thank our guide Jeremy for a wonderful day, we learned many new things about the islands and the fruits and trees, etc. We did have two very unhappy hikers who were not prepared and ended up back at the van, always surprised how people can be sooo crabby on Maui!!
We had an amazing time! Definitely the best guided hiking excursion I've been on. It was my 40th birthday and a bucket list checked marked...hiking, waterfalls (and it lightly rained while we were there), lunch in the majestic Hawaiian rainforest, etc. What else could we ask for? Bravo! Snacks (Hawaiian pineapple, water, and a cookie) were provided along with lunch. Roger was our guide and he sure knew his information from the history to the landscape. He is a local resident which definitely adds to his knowledge. In addition, Roger was able to navigate our group to other more secret waterfalls that the general public didn't know about...what a private escape! Thank you Roger and East Maui Waterfalls for this unforgettable experience.
