Need a bathroom? Porta potties or toilets are near most trailheads. After that, search for privacy foliage.
Should we use our own backpacks? We prefer you use ours, then you don't accidentally walk off with our gear, and you don't get your pack dirty.
What are these ninja water shoes? Japanese tabis (fishermen shoes). The felt sole clings to wet, mossy rocks better than any other shoe. They can be slippery in mud, however. Best to wear them in the water, not on the hike.
Bugs love you? Got a bite? Ask your guide for AfterBite -- pharmaceutical ammonia that neutralizes the toxin. Takes away the itch. Also very good for bee, spider, scorpion, centipede and hornet stings.
What are flash floods? Sudden, very rapid flooding in streams, due to heavy rainfall. Rare, but get out of the water if your guide blows a whistle. You need to react very quickly and head for high ground. Listen to your guide.
Do you have medical issues? (back, knees, heart, diabetes, pregnancy) Write these down below or tell your guide.
Is tipping the guide common? Yes, this is a service industry. If you're happy with your guide, a 10-15% tip is the best way to show appreciation.
We booked this tour a few weeks before our arrival and I have to say I was pretty excited based on all of the TA reviews. You guys did not let me down. Sean was our tour guide and he as absolutely amazing. He is from Milwaukee transplanted to Maui, but he has made an incredible transition and his soul absolutely breathes “ Aloha.” He was positive and so pumped on life that his caring spirit made you want to be a better person. Besides that, he knew more stuff about the rainforest and gave us more information than I will ever remember, but it was all great stuff. The people on our tour all rocked. It was absolutely the best adventure we had on Maui. You must do this! One thing I appreciated about Sean is that he pumped up all the other tour guides and reminded us that we could take the tour again and get a completely different, but good experience! East Maui Waterfalls, this kid is a keeper and if he is characteristic of your company, then you are amazing! Thank you for a great day. Our family of 5 had a blast and made memories that will remind us of beautiful Maui!
We did the East Maui Waterfall/Rainforest hike this past week with a private group We did this same hike 3 yrs ago, but wanted our 10 yr old daughter to experience it this trip. Our guide, Kevin, was fantastic! He was extremely knowledgeable and couldn’t have been more attentive to our daughter. She jumped at all the waterfalls and Kevin guided her on best places to get footholds, where to jump and had an eye out for her the entire time. We didn’t think it was possible to enjoy the hike more than the first time, but Kevin proved us wrong-the second time was even better. Highly recommend!
Really enjoyed my experience. Our guide, Jeremy, was so informative about everything, from people, places, culture, food, plants and animals. Would definitely do again and recommend to everyone who comes to Maui. Thank you for the experience!!
