My friend Lou at Expedia at the Wharf suggested this place to us, right off Front St. So my husband and I went and gave SUP (stand up paddle) a try! We were still on our local time, so we were there about an hour before we had to be, had a little breakfast at this little Swiss place right next door, played with their super cute doggie, and were ready to start our lesson at 8 am. We had Benson as our instructor. They had the boards for us at the beach already, and after a short walk, we were ready to go. Got a lesson at the beach on how to get on the boards, and in the water we go! Within 20 minutes we were both up and paddling! Benson kept telling us not to look down, which was hard because you want to see whats under you and going by, but we listened, and my goodness we were doing it! I kept saying to myself, OMG you are stand up paddling in Maui! How fricken cool is this? We both fell twice, but only at first, once we got the hang of it, we were off and paddling around. Everyone said its a huge workout, but honestly, I didnt think it was... maybe I was doing it wrong, but it was pretty simple once you got your balance right. We paddled all along the shore, and at times, just a few centimeters above awesome coral formations. It was a pretty rural area, we went past Lahaina Shores, and there were many folks along the beach walking and walking their dogs. At one point Benson and I were taking a break, and sitting on our boards, and the cutest little doggie came swimming out to me and crawled right up on my board! (I was missing my own girl back home something fierce, so I was all for this) we got some much needed puppy time, and off we went. Benson was a very nice young man, local to the area so knew every detail of where we were, and how close to coral we were even when he wasnt next to us, he'd tell us in advance where to steer clear of so we wouldnt hit our boards on the coral, and even stopped us and brought up a star fish on his paddle for us to see! It was lovely. We talked about the boards, what kind they were, the differences between them and so on. We talked about getting our own boards back home, thats how much we loved it! We'll be back for sure, and seriously, if you want a local company, thats friendly and will teach you to Stand Up Paddle, please try Lahaina Standup Paddle, and say Aloha to the doggie at the Swiss cafe next door! My only regret, not getting photographic proof we did this :( next time for sure! AWESOME!
First of all, thank you to Scott (owner), his wife and K.C. (Casey), our stand-up paddle board instructor/guide. You all made our SUP experience a priceless one. Last week, my husband and daughter were ready to take their lessons and I was prepared to watch from the shoreline. My confidence as a swimmer is lacking. Scott and his wife, both suggested I give paddle boarding a try...that I'd love it. Well, they were right! I would have missed out on learning how to paddle board, as well as the best family experience ever. Thanks to K.C., I "committed" and stood up the first and every try AND stayed on the board - awesome!!! My husband and daughter thought their paddle board experience was THE BEST!!! We even took out a paddle board the next day and my daughter is a natural. K.C., our instructor/guide, is personable, professional, kind and extremely knowledgeable. He spent time with each of us helping us along and ensuring we knew exactly what to do to paddle correctly and successfully. Thank you, K.C.! Thank you, Lahaina Standup Paddle!!! You ROCK!
We took the SUP lessons today. I have this irrational fear of the ocean, but hey, it never hurts to try something new. So we gave this a shot and instead of standing (which I was able to do very easily btw), I chose to sit on my board and leave the stand up part to the others :) After we made our way to a sand bar, I gave it another go. It's not that hard to get the hang of, but I decided I like sitting better. All in all, I'd come back again if my family was interested in other lessons. I may be watching from a comfy spot on the beach, but I know they'd have a good time. The owner and guide were great and made sure everything we needed was taken care of. Definitely would recommend to a friend.
My girls went surfing here today and they raved about it. The instructor was awesome and by the end of the lesson they were surfing like they were naturals....
Can't rave about this place enough. Scott and Dana are the most personable helpful and welcoming staff I've encountered here. Took a surf lesson and learned...
My wife and I took a private lesson on Sunday with Scott and we thought it was a fantastic experience! 1. He came in on a Sunday and 2. he perfectly...
