Why We Love It -  Idyllic 5-star South Maui setting. Show up early for the best table assignments and fun pre-show activities.

Travel to ancient Hawaii during an exciting and memorable evening exploring the legends of Maui!

The Grand Luau lies along Maui’s southern coastline and has been consistently voted as the best Wailea luau. It is located in the luxurious Grand Wailea resort and includes complimentary valet parking.

Honua'ula will take you to the time when seafaring Polynesians discovered the majestic Hawaiian islands. The story begins with the voyages of Moikeha and La'amaikahiki who first visited the sacred island of Maui, specifically the area called Honua'ula. The story reveals the goddesses and gods who guarded these courageous individuals while they co-existed and lived in harmony.

First, Pele, the goddess of fire, is described paving the way with her lava so there would be land sufficient for the Hawaiian people to live on. Then, Lilinoe, the goddess of the mist, sent cool rains to nourish the lands. The mermaid of Maui, Kananaka, swooned near the surfers and tried to capture them for fun. Lastly, the love story legend of Naulu, the goddess of the clouds, who could only visit her lover Kanaloa in and upon the clouds.

These stories combine to create a memorable and exciting evening with traditional hula and chants that explore the Hawaiian history of Maui.

I don’t have anything to compare it to, but we really enjoyed the entire luau experience. The Grand Wailea grounds are beautiful, and from the outdoor area where they hold the luau, we were able to turn around and see a gorgeous sunset on the beach. The whole event is so well organized, and the staff seems to go out of their way to make sure that everyone is having a good time. Also, the food was excellent, particularly for a buffet. There was even a server who came around and asked us if we wanted refills of our drinks from the bar. In addition, the show was top notch. The performers were incredibly talented, and it was just beautiful to watch.

Would recommend including this on your trip to Maui. Wonderful evening of entertainment, food and drink right on the beach. Great for adults and children. We choices the priority seating but would say that even if you don’t take this option you will have a great view.

This was a fun event held on the Molokini Garden area at the Grand Wailea Waldorf Astoria resort. Beautiful location oceanfront afforded us spectacular sunset views. We upgraded our tickets and had a middle table in the 2nd row and flower leis upon entry. The seats were excellent. There was plenty of food and open bar (you could go up to the bars and order free drinks but there is also wait staff who are more than willing to keep bringing over drinks) but it's really all about the show for us.The performers were having a great time and that made the show more enjoyable for the audience. The female narrator was clear to understand and was enthusiastic about the material. The band kept things lively with ongoing Hawaiian style music. The story line was interesting and varied with unique dances, a treetop dancer on silk ropes and the fire dance at the end was amazing - incredible how he fast he could twirl that fire and make it dance - truly a fire chief! It was a memorable evening.
